As I entered the shop today a little older woman approached, guided me by elbow into the shop, talking the whole way. after a few minutes inside i realized who she was. just a few days before christmas i had spoken with the husband. he was desperately searching for help for his grown daughter and her grown son. she had drug problems he said, and they could not live with him, but he thought he could put them up someone, maybe Hastings, where they could walk to work or something. he begged to call him back wither way, which i did when i did not find anything.
on this day, they had driven from Ponte Vedra to meet me and get a pie. they were just delightful. They told me about their life together, trials and tribulations. I walked them to their car in the rain and they eached hugged me neck, “God bless you” they both said. and I said, “God bless you.”
These are some of the people I meet in Hastings.
